ENGLISH-SPEAKING DENTIST · DÜSSELDORF
An English-speaking dentist in Oberkassel.
The mouth is the worst place for a language barrier. At A+ Dental in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel the examination, the explanation of what we found and the consent discussion happen in English with Dr. Rodríguez Ruíz. No interpreter, no nodding along to something you did not fully follow.
WHY THE LANGUAGE MATTERS
Understanding is part of the treatment, not an extra.
In dentistry the decision is rarely obvious: implant or bridge, ceramic or metal, treat now or wait. That decision is yours, and you can only make it if you have genuinely understood the alternatives — not just the recommendation.
So here the language is not a reception detail. It is the condition that makes informed consent mean anything at all.
WHO TREATS YOU
Dr. F. J. Rodríguez Ruíz, MSc.
Dentist and practice owner. University training in Spain, practising in Germany. Treats and explains in English, German, Spanish and Portuguese.
Meet the team →THE GERMAN SYSTEM
Four things nobody explains when you arrive.
German dentistry is logical, but it does not work like the system you grew up with, and the differences tend to surface at the worst moment — when a cost plan is already on the table.
The card does not cover everything
Check-ups and medically necessary basic care go through your statutory insurance card. Dentures, implants and aesthetic work do not, or only in part.
Costs and financing →The Bonusheft
A small booklet stamped once a year at your check-up. After five and after ten years it increases your insurer’s contribution towards dentures. Ask for one at your first visit.
How it works →A written plan, always
Before any larger treatment you receive a Heil- und Kostenplan: findings, planned work, contribution and your own share. Nothing is treated before you hold it.
Understand the plan →No referral needed
You go to a dentist directly. No GP visit first, no prior history in Germany required.
Your first appointment →TREATMENTS
All explained in English too.
FINDING US
At the Belsenplatz, Oberkassel.
Two minutes on foot from the tram stop, in the part of Düsseldorf where most relocated professionals live. If it is your first visit you can complete the medical history form at home, so the appointment starts with a conversation rather than paperwork.
Frequently asked questions
Is the whole appointment in English?
The examination, the explanation of the findings and the consent discussion are done in English by Dr. Rodríguez Ruíz. You do not need to bring anyone to translate the clinical part.
I have just moved here and do not have a German insurance card yet. Can I come?
Yes. With acute pain you are always treated and the insurance question is settled afterwards. Without a German card we bill privately; with a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) acute necessary treatment is covered.
Do I need a referral from a GP?
No. In Germany you go to a dentist directly — no referral, no prior medical history in the country needed.
What is a Heil- und Kostenplan?
It is the written cost plan you receive before any larger treatment: the findings, the planned work, your insurer’s contribution and your own share. You take it home and decide afterwards.
Can I bring a treatment plan from another practice for a second opinion?
Yes, and it is entirely normal. Bring the cost plan and any X-rays. We say what we see the same way and what we see differently, and we name the less expensive option too.
Can my whole family and my colleagues register here?
Yes. Relocations rarely arrive alone, and we regularly take on families and whole teams moving to Düsseldorf together.
NOT SURE WHAT YOU NEED?
Four questions and you have your path.
What brings you here, when you last went, how you are insured and how soon you want to start — out comes a page written for you, in English.
About forty seconds. Anonymous, nothing is stored and it commits you to nothing.
