What are veneers?

Veneers are ceramic shells about 0.3–0.7mm thick, bonded to the visible face of the tooth. They correct discolouration, shape, small gaps and worn edges without replacing the tooth. Properly planned, on a healthy foundation, they can last many years. Whether they suit you is decided by an examination and the prior analysis, not a catalogue.

MATERIAL

Ceramic or composite: which veneer you need.

Both are made from the same approved design. The difference lies in the material, the process and the expected durability.

Ceramic veneers

Hand-layered in the lab to the design you approved, then bonded to the prepared tooth.

ADVANTAGES

  • Stain-resistant and colour-stable
  • Natural-looking translucency and texture
  • The right choice for a full transformation

TYPICAL DURABILITY

10–15 years+

Composite veneers

Shaped directly on the tooth in a single sitting, from the same design analysis.

ADVANTAGES

  • No lab stage, no waiting
  • Easy to repair and adjust later
  • Suited to one or two corrections

TYPICAL DURABILITY

3–5 years

Sometimes the honest answer is: neither.

Sometimes whitening, a small repair, or straightening is enough. If a more conservative solution achieves your goal, we tell you — even if that means less treatment.

What the analysis measures

Proportions are measured on your face, not against an ideal — which is why no two patients receive the same design.

WHO IT SUITS

Common wishes from our patients.

Discolouration

Staining that whitening alone can no longer correct.

Shape & proportion

Worn edges, teeth that are too short or uneven.

Gaps

Spaces between the front teeth (diastema).

A harmonious set

Full smile design across several teeth, not a single tooth.

THE PROCESS

See it first, decide afterwards.

  1. 01

    Analysis & photo documentation

Photos, video while speaking and laughing, scan and examination — the basis for the design.

  2. 02

    Digital design (smile design)

Your future smile appears over your own image, next to the current one. You give feedback and we adjust.

  3. 03

    Mock-up: the real trial

The design is transferred into your mouth as a trial, with nothing ground down. You wear it, speak, laugh, and decide.

  4. 04

    Preparation & fabrication

Only once the design convinces you is the tooth prepared as minimally as possible, and the lab makes the veneers.

  5. 05

    Placement & fine adjustment

The veneers are bonded in place and adjusted to your bite. Regular aftercare secures the result for years.

COSTS

What do veneers cost?

The short answer: the price depends on the number of teeth, the material and the complexity; veneers are a private service. After the analysis you receive a written, per-tooth cost plan before anything begins.

Some supplementary dental insurers contribute to aesthetic treatment — we prepare the documentation for your claim.

LIMITS & DURABILITY

Speaking openly.

With good care, ceramic veneers often last 10–15 years or more; grinding your teeth, hard deposits or an accident can damage them. If you clench or grind, we recommend a protective splint. And importantly: ground-away enamel does not come back — which is why we plan as conservatively as possible and recommend against veneers when a gentler solution is enough.

NATURAL, NOT “DONE”

The goal is not a uniform white but a smile that fits your face. Ceramic has a tooth-like translucency, and shape and colour are determined individually together with the dental technician.

LIMITS & DISCLOSURE

What you should know before deciding.

Veneers are an established, predictable procedure on a healthy foundation. Even so, some points are better clarified before, not after. We discuss these with you personally, based on your analysis.

Ground-away enamel does not come back

THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION

Even though modern veneers need very little grinding — and in suitable cases none — what is removed cannot be recovered. That is why analysis comes before treatment, and why we recommend against veneers when a more conservative route achieves your goal.

Teeth grinding (bruxism)

THE MOST COMMON RISK FACTOR

Clenching or grinding at night puts load on the ceramic and can cause fractures. If we see signs of bruxism, a protective splint is part of the treatment, not an optional extra.

Sensitivity after placement

COMMON, TEMPORARY

In the first days or weeks the tooth can react to cold. It usually resolves on its own. If it persists, we check it — almost always there is a correctable cause.

Ceramic does not change colour

IMPORTANT FOR PLANNING

Veneers cannot be whitened. If you want to lighten the neighbouring teeth, whitening happens before the veneer shade is set, not after.

A healthy foundation is the condition

FUNCTION FIRST

Caries, periodontitis or leaking fillings are treated first. A veneer over a diseased tooth hides the problem instead of solving it.

Gums & the veneer margin

FOR THE LONG-TERM RESULT

The margin between veneer and tooth needs healthy gums and careful hygiene. Without regular aftercare, a dark margin can appear over the years — far easier to prevent than to correct.

This overview does not replace a personal consultation. Before any aesthetic treatment we go through your analysis, the alternatives and the limits relevant to you — in English, German, Spanish or Portuguese.
