Which restoration is the right one?
Crowns, bridges, implant-supported restorations or dentures — four routes, compared honestly, so you decide with all the facts.
Which restoration is the right one?
It depends on three questions: how many teeth are missing or damaged? What is the condition of the neighbouring teeth and the bone? And what matters to you — a fixed feel, being able to remove it, cost? There is no blanket “best” restoration, only the right one for your situation. That is exactly what we clarify at the consultation, with all the alternatives and a written treatment and cost plan.
THE OPTIONS
Four routes — compared honestly.
Crown
Protects and rebuilds a badly damaged but salvageable tooth — usually full ceramic, colour-matched to your teeth.
One damaged toothBridge
Fixed and firm, spanning a gap over the neighbouring teeth. Well-established and predictable — the abutment teeth need to be ground down for it.
Small gap, stable neighboursImplant-supported restoration
A crown, bridge or denture on implants — firm hold without grinding healthy teeth. More on the implantology page.
First choice for missing teethDenture
Removable restoration for larger gaps or toothless jaws — made with modern methods and, if needed, stabilised on implants.
Economical full solutionCost: Statutory insurers pay a findings-based fixed subsidy — regardless of which solution you choose. A well-kept bonus booklet increases the subsidy. You see your own share in writing before treatment begins.
Crown, bridge, implant or denture: we lay the options side by side with cost, durability and effort — and tell you what we would choose ourselves.
FREQUENT QUESTIONS
Prosthetics — answered briefly.
What does insurance cover for prosthetics?
Statutory patients receive a findings-based fixed subsidy, oriented to the standard care for that finding. If you choose a higher-value solution, the subsidy stays the same — you cover the difference. A gap-free bonus booklet increases the subsidy.
How long do prosthetics last?
Well-made crowns and bridges last many years. What determines the lifespan is rarely the material, but the surroundings: the health of the supporting teeth, teeth grinding and how well the margins can be cleaned.
Bridge or implant — which is better?
The findings decide, not preference. A bridge is faster and cheaper but costs substance from two healthy teeth. An implant leaves the neighbouring teeth untouched and preserves the bone, but needs a procedure and several months.
How long does fabrication take?
Between the impression and fitting there are usually one to two weeks of lab time. During this time you wear a temporary — you are never without a visible restoration.
Is the restoration visible?
With full ceramic restorations, usually not. The colour is matched to your neighbouring teeth and agreed together before the final fabrication.
What is a treatment and cost plan?
The document that tells you exactly what will be done and what it costs, before treatment begins. It goes to your insurer for review. You do not have to sign it immediately — take it with you.
