Your implant passport and aftercare
Dear patient,
your implant is in place. How long it lasts is decided from now on — by how you clean at home and by the check-ups you attend. Keep this passport together with your bonus booklet.
What your implant passport records
-
·
Manufacturer, product line, diameter and length
Every implant system is built differently. Without this, another practice has to guess which components fit.
-
·
The tooth position
in international notation, so the entry is readable anywhere in the world.
-
·
Date of placement and name of the surgeon
-
·
Bone substitute material used
if bone grafting was carried out.
-
·
Space for every aftercare visit
Bring the passport to each appointment and we fill it in on the spot.

Why aftercare decides how long it lasts
1
No decay risk
An implant cannot develop decay. That is the one point where it is superior to a natural tooth.
2
But weaker defence
It has no natural periodontal ligament. Its defence against bacteria at the gum margin is therefore weaker than a natural tooth.
3
Catch it early
If the tissue becomes inflamed, peri-implantitis develops: bone loss that stays painless for a long time. Caught early it treats well; caught late it costs the implant.
Your aftercare schedule
- First check after about one week, then at four to six weeks.
- Every three months in the first year, with professional cleaning of the implant.
- Then every three to six months, permanently. More frequently for smokers, diabetes and after periodontitis.
- Radiographic check of the bone level at individually set intervals.
Care at home
- Brush twice daily with a soft brush, no scrubbing motion.
- Clean between the teeth daily with the interdental brush we fitted for you.
- No metal instruments and no hard toothpicks at the implant neck.
- For fixed prosthetics on several implants: superfloss or water flosser, as demonstrated.
Your next step
Call us if the gum around the implant bleeds or is swollen, the crown feels loose, or an unpleasant taste develops. If you lose the passport, we will issue a new one.
Well cared for, it will serve you for many years.
